A mother. A son.
Now an OT-led team.
WEYA was founded in 2020 by a mother and son on the Gold Coast. Family-run from day one. The original focus was mental health support — small caseloads, real relationships, the kind of continuity that only a tight team can deliver.
Josh later qualified as an Occupational Therapist, and the practice expanded into the area most providers avoid: complex physical and neurological care. ADLs, manual handling, prescription support, behaviour literacy — trained in-person by Josh, the OT lens carried through every shift.
The result is a service built for two doors: families coming home from hospital who need that level of care continued, and families who never went to hospital but were quietly turned away by providers who said the support was “too complex.” Both are welcome here.

In Josh's words
“We kept seeing the same gap. So we trained for it.”
Most providers are not built for clinical complexity. Their workers learn on the job, often at the participant's expense. Routines drift. Six weeks later the family is exhausted and the participant is right back where they started.
At WEYA we build the team around the participant first, not the other way around. We profile every hire to the family. We train in person. We document like clinicians, because at plan reviews that documentation has to hold up.
You don't have to be coming from hospital to call us. We work with families who've been quietly turned away by other providers just as often. If you're a clinician with a complex referral, or a family who has been failed before — that's the conversation we want to be in.
